Run Surveys in Kiosk Mode on the Polldaddy iOS app

Going to a trade show? Need an easy way to collect customer feedback? The Polldaddy for iOS app is a great way to collect that feedback using an iPad, iPhone, and/or iPod Touch, even if the internet connection on the trade show floor is spotty or absent altogether. Two features of the iOS app—kiosk mode and the timeout function—offer a great way for you to allow participants to offer their feedback while you spend time meeting and greeting prospects.

Kiosk mode

Kiosk mode locks down the iPad, preventing participants from leaving a chosen survey. Although we can’t prevent people pressing the iOS device’s “home” button, selecting this option disables the exit survey button. Once enabled, you will be able to start a survey and the only way to then exit is to close the app.

To enable kiosk mode, click on your iOS device’s Settings icon:

On the left-hand side of the screen, you’ll see a list of your apps. Choose Polldaddy:

To enable kiosk mode, toggle Allow Survey Exit to Off:

Timeouts

Following on from the kiosk mode we introduced in 1.3.1, there is now an optional timeout setting. When timeout mode is enabled, the app will reset to the start of the current survey if no response is entered within the time period you select. This setting will be very useful when you want to use the app unattended, for example in a store or public area, or at the trade show while you’re speaking with new customers. If someone starts a survey but then leaves without finishing, the device will reset itself ready for the next person. Note that partial survey results are still captured. Combine this with the kiosk mode and a suitable device enclosure and you have a very powerful data collection device.

To enable timeouts, click on the Settings button on your iOS device:

On the left-hand side of the screen, you’ll see a list of your apps. Choose Polldaddy:

Click on the Survey Timeout option to select the time period for timeout:
